Collar Tab Late war example typical of the GI bringback hoard in unissued condition with the white cotton stitching visible to reverse.
The Waffen-Gebirgs-(Karstjäger-)Brigade der SS was a German mountain infantry brigade of the Waffen-SS formed in 1944. It was primarily composed of volunteers and conscripts from the mountainous regions of Yugoslavia and Italy, tasked with combating partisan forces in the difficult terrain of the Karst plateau. The brigade saw action against Yugoslav Partisans and other resistance groups during the latter stages of World War II.
This insignia, likely a collar tab, would have been worn by members of this brigade to denote their unit affiliation. The design, featuring a starburst or snowflake motif, is characteristic of some Waffen-SS unit insignia, often chosen to represent specific geographical or operational environments. Such items are collected by military history enthusiasts and collectors of World War II memorabilia.
World War II, 1944-1945.
