1796 pattern infantry officers sword

A 1796 pattern infantry officers sword, gilt brass fold down guard and pommel, wooden grip with wire binding. Steel single edge blade with single fuller and flat spine, blade is approximately 99cm.

Condition is fair, missing knuckle guard and quillon (these appear to have been away at some point, perhaps purposely). A hole remains in the pommel where the guard once fitted. The wire binding to the wooden grip has become loose at some point and glued (glue not visible). Blade is mottled and pitted in places. No scabbard.
